Gamealot is a 2 1/2 day board game convention that brings novice and experienced players together to play games and raise funds for a local charity that supports families in our community.
This year, our goal is to raise funds for the Veterans Association Food Bank.
About the Veterans Food Bank of Alberta
We exist for the sole purpose of helping our forgotten veterans in any way needed. Too long have the heroes and their families that laid everything on the line for us and in some cases, made the ultimate sacrifice, suffered in silence. IT’S TIME WE STAND UP FOR THEM!
We strive to restore dignity to all who use our service and assistance is not pre-defined. Clients are able to shop for themselves to ensure they receive exactly what they need and enough to cover 10-14 days of food for their situation.
The Veterans Food Bank of Calgary was established in August 2018. Our official charitable status was granted in 2020.
We provide food security, financial assistance, group and individual therapy, P.T.S.D. evaluation, clothing, laundry facilities, and a recreational mezzanine with 2 big screens, pool table, foosball table. A secure place to unwind and chat with other vets or just have a game of pool.
About Gamealot
In the late ’90s, John Engel, then owner of Mission: Fun & Games in St. Albert, set out to host an event “for the gamers, by the gamers.” The idea evolved into a fundraiser. John hosted the first Gamealot in support of the St. Albert Food Bank at his store in 2001. The event has since raised thousands of dollars and hundreds of pounds of goods for people in need.
Today, Gamealot is organized and managed by a committee of gaming enthusiast volunteers. Over 100 guests from across Alberta attend the event each year.
